If you want a shredder that looks and costs heavy-duty, but with the performance of a much smaller and cheaper product, then the SB-99Ci is for you. Despite its size, it has the shredding power of an oscillating fan. Seriously. Supposedly it can handle up to 17 sheets of paper at a time, but in my experience it jams regularly with only 6. It also overheats after about 15 minutes of exertion and has to have a rest, like an old man with emphysema walking around the mall. The “Safe Sense” technology, which stops the shredder if your fingers get too close to the paper feed, is annoying and pointless. No human finger could fit down that slot and get anywhere near the teeth. Unless your office is staffed by long, spindly-fingered elves all the Safe Sense does is slow you down.
I guess if you only shred a few documents from time to time this shredder is fine. But if you have even a moderate amount of stuff to shred, plan on spending the day. And a LOT of frustration.

I ordered this shredder through Amazon and had a problem from the start. The shredder bin has a tab that must trip a safety sensor when inserted.
When I first got this shredder, the tab was broken. To their credit, Fellowes shipped me a new bin when I filed a case (but they closed the case before I got it).
Now the new bin tab is still not long enough to trip the sensor so one can use the shredder.
This is my third Fellowes shredder . . . and my last. Poor, poor design. Avoid it.

I had the same experience that G. Wasiluk did – the safety sensor tab was broken off when I received the product. So, I sent it back to Amazon.com, and got a full refund. I think that because of the flimsiness of this particular part, this product does not fare well during shipping.

I own a small business and do a lot of shredding of paperwork. The employee that uses this regularly is very pleased with it, compared to a lighter duty shredder from from the same manufacturer; which we overused and wore out. We are all impressed with how quiet this unit is, and she is very happy that it hasn’t yet jammed; after owning it for a couple of months. The safety feature is also a nice plus. I would recommend this for home or small business use.

From my home-based office, I write, edit, and review technical documents that contain confidential, proprietary company information. Printed copies of these documents, plus solicitations from banks that contain my personal identification information, credit card receipts, online ourchase confirmations, etc., are items that I shred on an ongiong basis. My first shredder, which I bought at a nice price from Sam’s Club, did on OK job, but it was slow (only three sheets of paper at a time) and noisy. Eventually, the “worm/screww” mechanism started to jam. Clearing the jam was a real nuisance because the jammed paper formed a clog that has extrtemely hard and tight, requiring strong probes and pokes with a sharp object (a letter opener, in my case). It took upwards of five or six minutes to clear each jam, and jams happened every two or three extended sessions of use. It started driving my crazy. This new shredder is a dream. It handles larger piles of papers (17 sheets) at a time, has a low-pitched rumble that suggests power and competence, and it has a built-in safety feature that shuts the motor of as soon as it senses something (you finger, tie, etc.) getting too close to the feeding slot. (I also appreciate its ability to shred credit cards with no muss and no fuss.) Its large bin that easily slides out for emptying is well designed. This is a big improvement over my first shredder, which required me to lift off a heavy, awkwardly-balanced lid to get at the bin underneath. This new model has casters for easy rolling, a feature that I disabled because a) the unit is easy to lift and move (although mine is in one place and there is no need to move it), and b) the casters raise the height of the shredder so that it just fails to fit underneath my work table. I removed the casters and slid the shredder partially under the table so that the feeder slot remains covered. It works beautifully. I’v only had this shredder for two months, but I use it regularly and it has perfomred well. I highly recommend it for light to moderate shredding jobs.
